Visual Studio has a long history as the main Microsoft development tool. There has always been a Windows Desktop application. You can trace the history of Visual Studio back to the late 1990s. With 2019, we are using a tool that has been in proof for over 20 years. Throughout the years, Microsoft has created other related tools and used a Visual Studio brand name very broadly. Let's just say that caused some confusion in certain communities. Here are some of the historic names, like Team Foundation Server, Visual Studio Online, and Visual Studio Team System. If they are familiar to you, be aware that they don't exist in the Visual Studio world now. Let's see what is current. There are three desktop versions that are tailored for developers.
