- Let's talk now about what expiration timelines would be sensible to set for each of these articles. The first article is an announcement for an upcoming event. It's an annual event, and we can assume it's being announced well in advance. However, we do not want it to still be accessible in search results 12 months from now when people are searching for information about next year's event. For that reason, I'd suggest a maximum nine-month expiration date. Obviously, I only gave you the headline and the summary text. There may be something in the body of the article which suggests it should stay around longer, but even if that is the case, I'd rather see a separate article written after the fact that describes what happened and what the outcome of the event was rather than leaving a potentially misleading article online until next year when the dates and venue might be very different.
