- Here's a question likely to stop your team in its tracks. What is this project's purpose? This is a crucial question, and one that a lot of my clients like to skip past, because it's tricky. It's also easy to dismiss this question as too obvious, but anyone who's worked on a project that didn't have a well-defined purpose can tell you that it's worth articulating. What I'm looking for when I ask about the project's purpose is a sense of clarity around high-level objectives. For example, if you're designing a new recipe management app, the purpose of the project might be to create a better way to manage and share recipes. Or it might be something a bit more heart-centered, like supporting people in preserving and sharing their family traditions around food. Those are two distinct purposes, and it's important to articulate which one is more accurate. Without a well-articulated goal, your project is pretty much doomed to mediocrity.
