- The final consideration in putting together your team is diversity. While it may feel more efficient to limit the group's numbers and bring in folks who appear to be like-minded, it's been shown again and again by researchers that we actually make better decisions and solve problems much more effectively when we collaborate with people who have different perspectives. In other words, a little disagreement can be a very healthy thing. Now diversity is a pretty broad term, so I suggest you start by looking at your team through two lenses, diverse backgrounds and diverse priorities. Now, on the diverse backgrounds front, is everyone on your team from similar backgrounds? And by this, I don't just mean race and cultural backgrounds, which are a great place to start, but also age, economic background, gender, education, ability and so on.
