Applying design thinking

- Hello, I'm Chris Nodder. Welcome to this course on applying design thinking. Design thinking is a way to get your team thinking creatively about your products and services from your customer's perspective. By following a set of techniques aimed at helping the team understand user issues, find creative solutions to the biggest issues, and build and test a prototype for how those solutions would look in your app or on your site, you can plan for how you'll get the best bits of your new design implemented quickly. A design thinking exercise brings the whole team together for an intensive planning process. It can save tons of time that you'd be spending later on in meetings, trying to describe things to each other. And it gives everyone on the team a great understanding of what you're building and why. We're going to step through the process of identifying an unmet customer need that you can build a product around. Then, using input from your potential customers, we'll show you how you can create and test an early prototype of that product so that you can get feedback before you commit serious time and money to the development process. We'll wrap up with a look at the high-level planning that you can perform as a result of following this design thinking approach so you're set up to develop and deliver a product that your customers will love. Those final steps, the prototype validation and implementation planning are often missing from other descriptions of design thinking. As someone who actually helps development teams through the whole process from concept to delivery, my main aim is to leave you with an actionable plan, not just some pretty design sketches. So if you want a highly practical guide to applying design thinking in your own work, this is the course for you. Let's get started.
