- Let's put our discussion about work empathy aside for the moment, and think about where you may experience empathy in your day-to-day life. I shared a story earlier about feeling empathy for my daughter's injured hamster. And it's even possible and likely that you may feel empathy for characters on a show you're watching. But most salient to our discussion now is how you experience empathy for other people you interact with. It's a given in my family that between my wife, my three daughters, and me, everyone has a good sense of what everyone else is feeling at any time. And those feelings are contagious, whether positive or negative. Where does that data come from? It comes from body language. It comes from voice intonation.
