- It's possible you might have areas of your resume that you aren't so happy talking about. For instance, a gap in your employment, or a time when you were laid off or made redundant, or at the total change in career direction. It's easy to believe that interviewers will assume the worst. But let's face it, you got as far as an interview, and so now's your chance to explain what happened. A good answer is short, truthful, and ends with a positive spin. For instance, if you were made redundant, say why. How many others were let go at the same time and what you did to reassess and improve your skills before you took your next job. If you were fired, say what for, and tell the interviewer what you've learned subsequently. It's important that you do have an answer and one that's well-rehearsed.
