How to ask good questions in usability interviews
- [Instructor] One-on-one interviews are a great way to learn about how people behave when you can't actually go and watch them at work. But the data you get will only be as good as the questions you ask. Before you start a set of interviews, write down your goals, what information you want to learn. Now think about what general questions you could ask to get to those goals. Obviously once you get into an interview, the participant's responses could lead you down a different path, but it's always wise to go into the session with an idea of how you want to proceed. First, don't ever lead your participant to an answer. When you're writing down your potential questions, don't create any that make it clear what you want the answer to be, like, "You like using this software, right?" Don't ask questions that contain value judgments either. Judgmental questions can make your participants feel uncomfortable about giving their true…
