- Have you ever been a mentor? Was it easy, challenging, or nothing like what you expected? Mentorship is a major responsibility. It takes a deep level of humility to ask someone you admire to be your mentor. And it requires an incredible level of empathy to agree to be a mentor. Both parties end up learning a ton about themselves and each other. The skills practiced can benefit the mentor and mentee's professional careers. In this video, I'll share practices to make mentorship a success. Mentoring is a partnership. It's all about being unified and aligned. It's an opportunity to be vulnerable and to ask what you might think are stupid questions. But the primary purpose of this relationship is to grow fast. Why fast? Because when you have a mentor, you don't have to wait three to six months to get the review. Mentees can get that coaching, evaluation, and appreciation immediately.
