- [Narrator] There are hundreds of payment gateways, and they all do similar things. If you're brand-new to e-commerce, this can be overwhelming. Here are a few of the things that I consider when I'm looking for a payment gateway for a client. The first is what products they allow. Their customer support is, of course, important, how easy it is to create a developer account, the rates or the amount that they charge for each transaction, and any transaction limits. What is a bit surprising to someone who is new to e-commerce is that many payment gateways have limits on what sort of products you can sell, not because of a preference that they have, but because of risk. Most gateways have limits on gambling, financial services, pseudo-pharmaceuticals, and drug paraphernalia. If you're selling something in one of these categories, you'll want to use a gateway with fewer restrictions. USAePay is a gateway that has very few restrictions.
