Tips for moderating effective usability sessions

- Effectively moderating usability tests is more art than science, and is deceptively simple-seeming. The best way to get better at running usability tests is to practice, but make sure you keep these tips in mind. It's very important to set the stage with participants and focus on building rapport early. The first few minutes of a session set the tone, so aim to help the participants feel as comfortable as they can. Clearly describe who you are, what your goal is, and what your expectations are about the session. Reiterate that you are not testing them, but you're looking for honest feedback on what works well and, more importantly, what doesn't. Let them know that you might ask follow-up questions that seem obvious, or abstain from answering their questions right away.
