What is the role of internationalization and localization?
- [Narrator] Unless you're building software just for yourself, there are going to be more people using it who are different to you than there are people who are the same as you. Those differences could be cultural like different customs, they could be religious. They could be based on different standards like A4 versus letter-sized paper, or even just the different ways that people use language. Internationalization means providing a generic interface that avoids elements that have different meanings in various countries. That could mean choosing icons that are universally understood or avoiding images that might have unintentionally provocative meanings in some cultures. Localization means changing out elements for each locale. This might be the language used in the interface, the direction the text flows, displaying local maps, or even different rules based on local laws or tax codes. Mostly, companies try to do as much…
