What is website accessibility?

- Website accessibility is a hot topic these days. Maybe you've heard about a number of lawsuits against big corporations or universities concerning their websites and whether they are accessible to the disabled. What is accessibility and how does it affect you? In the physical world, society makes many accommodations for people with disabilities. Handicapped parking spots, curbed ramps and elevators are simple examples of these types of accommodation. We need similar types of accommodation for web users as well. For example, some users are unable to use a mouse, requiring that they surf your site with a keyboard. This might be blind or low-vision users and they might use a screen reader to read the website to them or they might have a Braille display as shown here.
