- About a month ago, I read a story by Debra Alfarone, a news reporter and video coach who helps reporters and business people alike look great on camera. It was a short story about the first time she did a live shot with no prep and no memorized lines, and she aced it. As her story goes, it was a Saturday morning at 4:00 a.m., she was on-camera, live, in front of a crime scene in Connecticut, she had no info, but she had to go on for one-minute. Off the top of her head, she said what she knew, what she didn't know, and didn't miss a beat. Even though this was years ago, she still remembers this moment because it set her on a new path. This one live shot was different than the dozens she had done before because it wasn't practiced, carefully delivered, or devoid a feeling.
