- [Narrator] Now one thing that's important to understand when it comes to networking and our servers is understanding the various protocols that are commonly used in access. You should understand what a protocol is. It's a set of rules and procedures for communication, okay? So we have the different rules and procedures for computer communication set with the various protocols depending on what type of communication we're going to have. So I just want to kind of quickly go through some of the common protocols that you'll find people are accessing your servers with and what ports that they communicate with so that you can make sure that your firewalls are set up appropriately.
