Configuring DNS zone replication
- [Instructor] Since zones are such an important aspect of DNS, it's important that these zones are available from more than one DNS server on a network to provide availability and fault tolerance when resolving name queries. Now, how replication between the servers takes place varies depending on the type of zone that we're dealing with. In an active directory-integrated zone, there's really nothing you have to do. It's just simply replicated as a part of active directory replication. In standard zone environments, we have what's called zone transfers. Now I've touched upon both of these in other videos, but I'd like to go give a much more in-depth look here. So to do this, let's start off by connecting with Member-1, which is a DNS server on our network with a couple of zones in it. Here in the Server Manager, on Member-1, I will go up to the Tools menu and select DNS. This takes us into the DNS Manager, we expand Member one, and our Forward Lookup Zones, here I can see…
