Counters and instances
- [Instructor] The Performance Monitor can be as custom as you need it to be. It can be used to monitor nitty gritty details about your server. Or it can give you big picture information. This is done with the use of counters and instances. Let me give some quick definitions before we dive in to the examples. First, counters. Counters are the specific things that we want to well, count. They're quantitative things. These are the specific things that we'd like to measure. For example, percent processor time or, how long is the queue, or list of items waiting to be written to, or read from the hard drive. Counters are the actual measures that we want to look at. The second definition is instances. Instances are what allow us to specify which of multiple objects we want to monitor. For example, if we have four hard drives which one do we want to monitor? Or if we have two CPUs which one do we want to track? And instances can also include the aggregate sum. Or, all of the CPUs together…
