Creating AD sites and site links

- Now that we determined that we need to build a second geographical location inside of our active directory structure, it's now time to create the active directory site and the site link inside the active directory environment prior to actually installing the first domain controller. First of all, just a little bit of review of some terms. An active directory site was defined as one or more well-connected high speed persistent IP subnets that allows us to control replication traffic, log-on traffic, and active directory work traffic at that site. We can create subnet objects that we're going to associate with the site. These are the IP addresses that are going to be with that site. We'll look at how to create those in a few moments. Then, we'll finish up looking at how to create a site link and then we'll define what are the components of a site link, which is protocols, the sites in the site link, our schedule, and a default schedule, and what's called a cost of the site link.
