Creating a DNS zone
- [Instructor] One the most important components to a DNS server is the presence of a DNS Zone, now a DNS Zone is basically a, we could call it a database of DNS records, and it's the records that allow us to do the actual name resolution. Now when a DNS server hosts a DNS Zone, it makes that server, what we call authoritative, over a certain name space that, that zone actually has records for. So to take a look at the different types of zones that are available in Windows Server 2016, I am going to go to a computer that I have here called, Member 1, which already has the DNS server role installed on it, but it was done so manually, and has not been configured in any way, shape or form. So here, on the Server Manager on the Member 1, I'll go up to the Tools menu, and select DNS. This takes us into the DNS Manager, and here we can see the server, Member 1, if I expand that, you'll see that we have our Forward Lookup Zones and our Reverse Lookup Zones, and if go to expand either one of…
