DNS caching
- [Instructor] One important component to DNS name resolution, is something called the DNS cache. So the DNS cache is an area of short term, local memory where a DNS client and/or server will store a recent name resolution query. So to take a look at this cache, let's jump over to Member 1, which is one of my DNS servers. Here in the Server Manager I'm Member 1, let's go up to the tools menu and select DNS, which will take us into our DNS manager, and you know, I mentioned in a video that I did on DNS querying that sometimes we have sophisticated querys where a client will ask a DNS server to look something up, and the DNS will have to go do some research. And if it's going to go do all that research to go find the answer for a client, then before it sends the answer to a client, it also stores that answer in its cache, so that if another client comes asking for the same location, right, the same name, then I don't have to go do all that research, I can just look in my cache and be…
