- [Instructor] When a DNS client sends a query to a DNS server, and the DNS server looks at the name that the client's looking for and it says that's not in one of my zones that I'm authoritative, what am I supposed to do? Well, this is where DNS forwarding comes into play. See, forwarding provides a way for name spaces or resource records that are not contained in a DNS server's zone, or I could say zones, 'cause you can be authoritative for multiple zones, to then be passed along to another DNS server for name resolution to take place. Now, there's a couple of different versions of how forwarding works in Windows server. So, what I'm going to do here, is I want to jump into one of my DNS servers here to show you the different types of forwarding that we have available. The one I'm going to use is going to be DC 1. DC 1 is one of my authoritative DNS servers for the LandonHotel.local domain. Here in the server manager on DC 1, let's go up to the Tools menu, and then select DNS. This…
