- One of the keys to understanding how name resolution works in DNS is understanding the concept of something called a query. Now, a query in its most simplistic form is basically a DNS client asking a DNS server if it knows the IP address of a name that it has. Right, that's its most basic form. But querying is a little bit more sophisticated than that, so what I'd like to do is jump over to Member-1, which is one of my DNS servers and go through exactly how some of the more sophisticated querying works. So, here in the Server Manager, on Member-1, I'm going to go up to the Tools menu and select DNS, which of course will take us to our DNS Manager. If I go to the Properties of my DNS server Member-1, we have a Monitoring tab, and we looked at this tab in a little bit more detail in another video, but the reason I wanted to come back here is 'cause you'll see here that there are tests that we can do for a simple query, which is also sometimes known as an iterative query, which is…
