- [Instructor] So far in this chapter, we have set up our physical disks, configured them to be dynamic disks, and then we've broken them up in two volumes, including mirrored sets, there is a simple volume, and over here we do have a striped volume. There is a color key at the bottom that includes only the types of volumes that are being used on this server at the time. The last piece of this preparation of our hard drives is formatting them to hold data. Now we were prompted during the creation of the volume to do a format. And you can tell by looking at this view that some formatting has been applied, but before you start saving any data to any new volume, you need to make sure that you've selected the file system that will serve you best. There are three choices of file systems in Server 2016 and they are the file allocation table or FAT, the new technology file system, or NTFS, and a file system that was introduced in Server 2012, the resilient file system, or ReFS.
