We have already looked at GUI and command line options in Server 2012, but if you do not like either one of those and you want a middle ground, then the Minimal Server Interface is a possibility for you. The Minimal Server Interface is a compromise between Server Core and GUI. It can be configured using PowerShell cmdlet, or it can be configured using the Add/Remove Roles Wizard. However, it's easier to do from PowerShell using a cmdlet. Some of the advantages of the minimal graphical interface are that it removes some hardware intensive elements of the GUI, keeps some of the key components of the GUI, and it allows you to keep server manager and the entire PowerShell interface. It also allows you to keep most of your MMC applications and device manager. It also provides most of the tools you'll need for remote management. However, there are also some disadvantages to it.
