- Active directory utilizes a technology referred to as a Mobile Master Model. Meaning that, every single domain controller has a writable copy of whatever database that domain controller maintains. Whether that database be the domain database. The configurations portion of the database or partition of the database. The global catalog, the applications partition of the database. All those partitions in that database are writable by any domain domain controller that maintains over that partition on that domain controller. But because of the way a mobile master model works, with every domain controller having a writable copy. There are certain things inside the active directory environment. If we could have multiple writable copies, that particular partition or that particular feature or service, may become corrupted as a result of having more than one machine being able to write to it.
