- [Narrator] Originally started as a Google project, the open source container orchestrator Kubernetes, I think it's safe to say, is the most popular container orchestrator today. Now, there's been a lot of excitement about whether or not Windows Server will be able to participate in a Kubernetes cluster. And the answer to that question is yes and no. So first off it's important to know that Windows Server 2019 supports Swarm clustering, and with Docker Enterprise 2.1 you can now manage and administer both Docker, Swarm and Kubernetes clusters with the universal control plane. However, Windows nodes can only be workers in Kubernetes, they cannot be managers. And what that means is you can't initiate a Kubernetes cluster with a Windows-only node. Now with Kubernetes 1.13 and above and Windows Server 2019 there are new Kubernetes features such as overlay networking, Kubernetes FlexVolume storage plugins, and Hyper-V isolation.
