- [Instructor] When we think about changing the operating system on a device, for a long time the recommended method was to first remove the old operating system and then install the new version. This was known as wipe and load. However, in recent years, Microsoft has made great efforts to offer an easier method. So long as the previous version is working, the modern approach is to use an in-place upgrade. This is a huge change, and IT professionals can be reluctant to abandon the legacy wipe-and-load approach. The in-place upgrade is the easiest and recommended way to upgrade to Windows 10. An in-place upgrade from an earlier version of Windows allows you to retain your existing user accounts, drivers, settings, and even the applications. This saves a huge amount of time and effort as you don't need to reinstall programs and settings, which also means your users can be immediately productive once the upgrade completes.
