- [Instructor] When working with TCPIP addresses you can choose to assign the addresses manually, or let Windows assign them automatically. DHCP, or dynamic host configuration protocol, is used to assign IP addresses automatically. It's likely that DHCP is enabled for your network connection. Let's find out by looking in the network connection details dialogue box. To access this, open the Network and Sharing Center and click the active network. I can get there from Network and Internet settings. I'll choose this network, I have several, but you'll probably only see one. I'll click it, and then I'll click Details. Here you can see that DHCP is enabled, and that there's an IPv4 address, and that address has a Lease. It is possible to manually input a static IP address that never changes.
