- [Instructor] In the past, IT professionals planned upgrades to their Windows clients based on major revision releases, such as Windows 8 and Windows 10. These were big projects that dedicated teams of employees worked on for a long time. Once a revision was released through an organization, say moving all clients from Windows 7 to Windows 8, they often began planning for the next one. In conjunction with planning for the next big revision, IT pros also had to update the existing OS. Let's look at the installed updates on this Windows 8.1 machine. This is what updates look like before Windows as a service came along. You can see, there are several update types. Here, we have updates to Windows, security updates, and if we scroll down, even hot fixes.
