Use the exercise files

- [Instructor] You don't really need any specific exercise files to work through this course. There are some places where we will need some files to work with, and it might be easy for you to just use some documents that you will already have on your computer. But if you don't have any documents, and you just need something to play around with to get through these videos, then we've included some files you can work with. If you're not familiar with how to download and unzip package files from a webpage, we'll see how this works. First, I want to go to LinkedIn Learning, and this is the page for one of our other Windows training courses. This will look very similar to the page you're using to watch this course. The page layout might be a bit different for you, but you're looking for a link for exercise files. So I can click where it says see all, and then I can click the download button. So now those files will download, which means they're copied to my storage drive on my computer. When that's finished, you can go to your downloads folder to access them. Depending on which web browser you're using, you might have a button like this, where you can go straight to that folder, or if you have File Explorer in the task bar, you can open that up. If you don't have either of those, you can go to the start menu by clicking the start button in the bottom left corner, then in this main list, we'll scroll down, go to Windows System, and open up File Explorer. So File Explorer is what you use to navigate the storage drive on your computer, and there should be a shortcut on the left for your downloads folder, where you will find the file that we just downloaded. So this is a zip file. It ends in .zip. It contains all of the files and folders that we'll need to work with in this course. To open it, I will double-click on it, and we can see the contents here is a folder. I'll double-click to open that, another folder called exercise files. We'll double-click to open that, and then we've got these folders that we'll actually work with in this course. Now, I do not recommend you open these directly from within the zip file, which is where I am now. Instead it's going to be better if you copy these folders to a different location on your storage drive. So I need to select them first. Probably the easiest way to do that is to click on the first one, hold the shift key on your keyboard and click on the last one, and now they're all selected. With those selected, I want to locate the shortcut for my documents folder over here on the left, then I'm going to drag these over. So I just point at one, hold my mouse button down and drag over to my documents folder, and let go. We'll give that a moment to copy, and now whenever I need to use the exercise files in this course, I will go to File Explorer, I'll go to my documents folder, and we'll have all of those folders there. And of course, all of these folders contain individual files that we can work with. So now we're all set with the exercise files.
