Using log files to troubleshoot Windows 10

- [Narrator] Now I'd like to talk about troubleshooting Windows 10. And typically in a troubleshooting situation, the first thing I do is look at the logs. So off the start menu, I'll type in event and that will bring up Event Viewer. The Event Viewer in Windows 10 is very similar to that in Windows 7 and Windows 8. And also very similar to the Event Viewer you would see on a Windows server. On the left hand side we have the option for Windows Logs, I'll expand that. The three most common logs we look at are the application log, which would give us information about the various desktop applications we are running. The security log which tells us about successful log ins and failed log ins and also successful and failed uses of certain accounts and security objects. The third log we commonly look at is the system log which will tell us about hardware issues and things about the various services that Windows runs.
