- [Narrator] Just about every E-Commerce platform out there says they're both easy to use and highly customizable. And this just isn't the case, fundamentally, when you give people choices, they have to make decisions. And that means there now have to be buttons, settings pages, check boxes, et cetera. All of that increases the mental load necessary to use your product. Now there are clever ways of minimizing choices, or only giving users choices when they go into the advanced settings. A lot of platforms are now using smart defaults, meaning they'll give you a lot of choices if you look for them, but by default, they'll make a lot of decisions for you. And this does make things easier, while you can sometimes find clever ways to hide, and not overwhelm users, it isn't possible to give them a ton of choices and have it be easy to configure.
