- [Instructor] There's probably no more contentious topic for a developer than if they should use a hosted or self-hosted solution. If you've never hear of the terms before, you can think of hosted as a ride-sharing service, similar to Lyft or Uber; and you can think of self-hosted as owning your own car. Neither of these are perfect solutions. They all have their pros and cons. And the best thing that you can do is truly understand the benefits and detriments of each, and advise your clients on which is the best for them. A good example of a hosted service is big commerce. With a hosted service, there are many things that are going to be easier for you. You don't have to worry about updates or maintenance.
