- [Instructor] As a developer, you don't have to know the ins and outs of online sales tax. However, it's likely you're going to get asked questions by your client about taxes, so it's helpful to know a little bit, so you can answer those questions, recommend tax software, and recommend a tax professional if the need arises. So let's cover some of the big concepts you're going to need to know. The first is that basically all products that you can sell online are taxable. That means you have to collect taxes for those products and submit those taxes to the government. There are a couple of exceptions for necessary products like food, and medicine. But these vary state by state, and country by country. And sometimes they have criteria that you need to meet. If you don't know if you have to pay taxes, assume that you do. You can always hire a tax professional to find out for sure but a safe bet is to assume that you have to collect and submit sales tax. One of the most confusing areas…
