- [Narrator] If you ask any software company, about their product, they'll say, "our software scales." And it's said so often, the question often becomes meaningless. Just about anyone will say, "it scales," and they probably have some dataset that proves it. This comes up a lot in the e-commerce landscape because proponents of hosted solutions, say that their platform scale, while self-hosted solutions, don't scale. And that's not entirely true. Scaling, can mean a bunch of different things, which is why it's so hard to define. For an analytic software, it's probably page hits. For a blog, it's probably visitors or the number of posts. And for e-commerce companies, it's usually the number of orders per second. And that's what most people don't realize.
