- No matter how thoroughly you plan your shoot, there will likely be some kind of problem that you didn't expect, that sucks up all kinds of time. It probably happens on all sets regardless of budget. Some of the most common that I've seen are maybe a key cast or crew member that gets lost or stuck in traffic; a vital piece of gear in the camera department breaks or is lost; there are communication errors, where someone thought that another person was bringing something to set; problems with permits and locations; the art department not having a set or property on time, the list is endless. The weather is another big cause of surprises that actually messed us up on The Assurance quite a bit. A couple of weeks before shooting, the temperature was in the 70s, it was sunny, buds were blooming, and it felt like spring had already sprung.
