Budgeting for post

- After a film is done being filmed, production ends, and a new phase, post-production, begins. This is when the film is edited, colored, the film score's composed, sound effects are added, the audio is mixed, any visual effects are done, and so forth. I got my start in the filmmaking world in post-production and I can tell you that almost without exception nobody budgets enough for it. Filmmakers often overextend themselves in production and solve every problem with money instead of creativity, and, of course, the funds that they use usually come from their post-production budget. Young filmmakers seem to be particularly myopic when it comes to the post-production budget. Kind of like people right out of high school with the big credit card. It sure seems like they have a lot of extra money, when in actuality, they're just borrowing from the future.
