- [Instructor] For many years when I would purchase books that were reference books, I would choose them based on how well they were indexed. For example, if I were looking for a book on Microsoft Word, I'd go to a bookstore, pull out several volumes on Microsoft Word, flip to the back. The assumption being that if they weren't well indexed, and I couldn't find the topics that I needed to find, they probably weren't going to do what I needed them to do. Indexes help your readers answer questions about what's in the book and help them find a specific topic that they're looking for. Indexes typically belong at the end of your document, so I'm going to hold Control and hit End. This document is compiled.docx which includes the index marks that we applied in the last movie. I'm going to go a new page, I'm going to indicate that this is an index, I'll even do a little formatting ahead of time, because unlike a table of contents, the indexing feature does not provide a title for me.
