- [Instructor] If we didn't have long documents, we wouldn't need tables of contents, and every long document deserves a table of contents. That's how folks will find your content, how they'll be able to look and see what's in your document, whether that's a book, or a proposal, whatever type of document you're creating. Fortunately, tables of contents are wicked easy in Microsoft Word. They're really one of my favorite features. I'm going to begin in the document that's TOC.docx. I'm going to hold control and hit enter to insert a blank page that I can put my table of contents on. One other thing, when you're working with the features that determine what pages things sit on, it's a good idea not to be showing your non-printing characters, so make sure that that feature's turned off because they take up space, and they actually can, in a long document, lead to an incorrect calculation of what page content will fall on when it's printed.
