- In this chapter we're going to look at assembling your team. You know that's really what filmmaking is all about, collaborating and coming up with better ideas as a group. Where can you find your crew? This is a tough one, essentially you're hiring crew members to work on your project just like hiring somebody for a job. So just like hiring somebody for a job it's kind of a gamble you never know if the person you're hiring is going to care about the job, or be good enough or not. In my experience, referrals are the absolute best source of finding great crew members. You can look on local message boards, different websites, check with the local state film office, there's groups on Facebook even Craigslist, I mean there are tons of places to hire crew members. But all these are very risky to me. I've been on plenty of film sets where the bad attitude of just a single person really damages the morale and creative atmosphere of the entire set.
