- One of the best assets you can get as a filmmaker is talented people that will tell you like it is. This is especially true in the script reading phase. Making a movie and creating an entire world that feels real with just dialogue and description is really tough. So, you need people on your team that will read your script and be honest with you. If you don't know anyone that could help, there are tons of writer's groups online like on Facebook or whatever. You can befriend people and you can work with them. When I passed around early versions of the script to people on my team, I remember Gevin Booth, our first assistant director, asking me questions about the script. When I described the world to him, he was surprised and said that what I verbally described to him wasn't clear when reading the script.
