- When we were scouting locations, our budget was $200 because that's about how much a permit costs for shooting in a park. And we thought we'd be shooting this in a remote corner of a remote park somewhere. But when we found the campsite we ended up using, it was just too good to be true. It was $500 dollars a day and at three days of shooting, that dipped into our budget reserves but it was the perfect spot and there really wasn't a better way to spend our money than this. So we wanted to book it as soon as possible. To book it, we paid for the reservation. We also signed paperwork. The people at the location had paperwork they wanted us to sign but we also had paperwork we wanted them to sign. This is really important. I hear horror stories all the time of filmmakers that just show up to locations on the day of production, you know, with all the cast and all the crew and the rented gear and everything, only to be turned away because someone changed their mind at the last minute.
