Why was a rewrite necessary?

- In this chapter we're going to look at the big rewrite that we did after the film was shot and a rough cut was put together. So why did we change it? Well, it just wasn't a very powerful story once we put it all together. There wasn't much conflict throughout. We've mentioned the source of great evil that's destroying their world during the prologue, but then we didn't mention it or see it again until the end of the film. In regards to the three act structure, conflict, objectives, obstacles, it really fell short a little, and to be honest, it still falls short a little bit. I knew these rules before writing the story, but it's really easy to see these rules, these concepts, being violated in other people's projects, but it's much harder when it's the work of your own creation. So in both versions, the original and the final film, I actually thought, when writing it, that it was built on this foundation of a solid structure, but then afterwards I realized that it's not very solid…
