- When people ask me how to create great themes, I tell them the most important thing is to be opinionated. Make decisions on behalf of the people that are using the theme, rather than giving them every option under the sun. That's why my themes tend to be a little bit more restrictive in what you can do, but it's also what makes them easy to work with. And one of the places where this idea of being opinionated really comes in, is when you work with menus. Because when you create menu areas in your theme, people are likely going to try to cram as many menu items in as possible, and that can create a really bad user experience for the people who visit your site. Let's take a look at our primary menu, which I modified slightly before this video to show you that we can actually only have a few items in it. The theme automatically calculates the width, and only shows you a few items. Depending on how long your menu names are, you probably only see four to six. The rest of them you can see…
