Demand Response
- [Instructor] The next energy and atmosphere credit addresses demand response. A demand response event, also known as a curtailment event, is a specific period of time when the utility, or independent service operator, calls for a change in the pattern, or level of use, in grid-based electricity from its program participants. Let me give you an example. On a very hot day the use of air conditioning peaks. Especially in cities the electricity grid may have a very hard time keeping up with this immediate demand. On a day like this, demand response programs encourage electricity consumers to reduce their usage during peak demand times. The demand response credit requires the building equipment to be designed and set up for participating in a demand response program. Project teams are then asked to enroll in a minimum one-year demand response participation with a qualified program provider if such a program is available.
