- [Instructor] The LEED rating system sets a minimum energy performance requirement through the LEED prerequisite minimum energy performance. Project teams that reduce energy consumption beyond the prerequisite can earn up to 18 points. For example, if a new construction project improves its energy performance by 50% from the baseline, it earns 18 points. The energy performance baseline is determined according to reference standards based on the rating system. For new buildings and major renovations, this is the ASHRAE standard 90.1. For existing buildings, the ENERGY STAR rating, and for homes, either the HERS index rating or ENERGY STAR for homes. USGBC approved equivalent energy baselines are acceptable for projects outside the US. LEED Green Associate Exam may test your knowledge of these standards and which building types they apply to.
