- [Instructor] According to the US EPA, Americans spend at least 90% of their time indoors. Many consider that indoor pollutants may be two to five times higher than outdoor levels. Indoor environmental quality has a significant impact on our health. Indoor environmental quality applies to various conditions inside a building, including ventilation, air quality, thermal comfort, lighting quality, access to views and daylight, and acoustics. The benefits of a high-quality indoor environment include improved health and well-being of building occupants, and economic benefits due to reduced sick days and improved productivity. According to the studies by Carnegie Mellon University, green buildings result in increased productivity in the range of 0.4% - 18%. Increased productivity equals better bottom line.
