- [Instructor] Plugins are small programs that are installed and activated into WordPress, and you can get them for free from the official WordPress Plugin Directory you see here and for free or for pay from other third-party vendors. The plugins on this plugin directory are also available directly from within WordPress admin. Plugins are managed from the admin panel under the Plugins setting. And when you open plugins, you immediately see the currently installed and activated plugins in your site. Out of the box, WordPress installs two plugins, Akismet Anti-Spam, a common spam moderation tool, and the plugin called Hello Dolly, a historical relic with no purpose. Just for background, this is the original proof of concept plugin, and all it does is show a line from the song Hello Dolly in the admin panel when activated so you're absolutely free to leave this not activated and delete it if you want to.
