Picking a parent theme
- [Narrator] Earlier in this course, I talked about all of the things that a theme does, from the layout to the styling. Remember, that when you're making a child theme you're basically modifying a parent theme. So you want to find a parent theme that's as close as possible to your vision for your child theme. The first thing I look for is the layout. Changing a layout is a lot of work. If you're mostly changing a theme with a sidebar on the left to sidebar on the right, that's not too bad. But if you wanted to take a single column theme with no sidebar, and add two sidebars that is a ton of work and I'd suggest that you find a different parent theme. One that already has those sidebars in place. On WordPress.org you can filter by layout. So let's go to feature filter and then we can see the layouts here.
