- [Instructor] Before the advent of databases, CMSs, and heavily coded web applications, websites were pretty straightforward. They were a set of static files with the primary purpose of displaying information. And while advancements in web technologies have made the internet a much richer and more interactive place, there are a few downsides. Sites can become bloated and slow. Constantly refreshing information means we may not be able to rely on certain caching methods to improve performance. Plus, requirements for servers have gotten more complex.
